Anyway, we dyed eggs today and much fun was had. We thought we'd do it outside but things were blowing off the table and also there are about 1,000 gigantic bumblebee-like things swarming my house now that it's warm. I think they are living in the eaves or something. I got creeped out by them and wanted to Mariahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00528504865661311358noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5804054.post-18167310809636642212010-04-03T22:36:00.002-04:002010-04-03T22:44:30.323-04:00One Down!I got one sock finished; it's not perfect, but the imperfections are ignorable as far as I'm concerned. Sock #2 is about 60% done, the gusset, foot and toe to complete. The foot is always so interminable that I'm kind of dreading it but I will persevere because I got my second sock club package the other day and I really want to get to it! These should be quicker because it's heavier yarn, so Mariahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00528504865661311358noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5804054.post-89150134748460368452010-02-14T02:43:00.001-05:002010-02-15T01:43:05.304-05:00Sock Club SagaI love the color of the yarn, I love the look of the pattern, but it is not without its issues. The bobbles take *forever*, which is ok because, surprisingly, I think they're super cute. It's kind of hurting my hands to do them, which tells me I need to knit looser. So ok. I am having gauge problems, totally unrelated I'm SURE to the complete absence of swatching I did. I'm doing medium socks on Mariahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00528504865661311358noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5804054.post-30638801392068586762010-02-05T22:05:00.003-05:002010-02-05T22:13:43.539-05:00loooooooveCheck it… more hearts. I am on a roll, baby, I can't stop. Somehow I started getting little holes along the edge (visible on the dark purpleish stripy one in this photo. I have no idea why. These hearts are just TOO CUTE for me not to share. I did the dark purple one this afternoon in like an hour and a half start to finish. That is a major deal for me. She woke up really early (why does that only happen on non-school mornings?) and to buy myself a little extra horizontal time I asked her if she’d get me a glass of water. Next thing I knew it was 40 minutes later and she showed up with a big tray. I couldn’t believe she’d managed to carry it upstairs.
It was ginger snaps – 3 in a little dish, Mariahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00528504865661311358noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5804054.post-74860325808555260692008-04-15T20:25:00.002-04:002008-04-15T23:20:04.354-04:00Grief SucksCode id by nose,Messy living roomDirty dishes. The recycling is not taken out.Child put to bed lateMeals perfunctory, unplanned.Mood: grumpyReactions: irritableAffect: apathetic.Low-grade internal refrain:It's not fair! It was astonishingly easy to get them to agree that I deserved a replacement, and I'm so very excited. Thank you, Apple! But I don't have it yet. I have been obsessively checking the FedEx tracking page every 5 minutes for the past two days. It's still not warm enough to be going around with no hair on the back of your head! This hat is springy in color and design, but warm and cozy enough for cold winter nights, made from half-llama, half-wool Cascade Pastaza. James helped us hook the trailer up to the bike yesterday afternoon. It's a good thing he did, because I would not have been able to figure out how to do it in 100 years. In fact, I spent about 100 years trying one afternoon last fall. So then we rode home! Note the garbage can strapped to the back of the trailer. And if you enlarge many times, you can sort of see M.M. peeking out of the windowMariahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00528504865661311358noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5804054.post-4274510689400511472008-02-02T09:18:00.000-05:002008-02-02T09:25:30.509-05:00Short Row HeelIs there anyone out there who can knit a short-row heel in one go? I'm sure all those serious, real, knitters do it without thinking. I am not capable of this. All that counting – how can you keep track? The stitches, the rows, the yarn overs… the high numbers. It's not like a little pattern repeat where you have to count to six, or even 12 or 14. This is, like counting to 27. Except in my case. I have always loved the tiny needles, the skinny yarn, the eensy weensy stitches. Now, having worked on the bulky Christmas hats for the past 6 or 7 weeks, I have no more patience for the slow tedium of those little fussy kinds of projects. I'm all about the chunky yarn, the double digit needle sizes. Laziness? I suppose so. Someone on NPR just told me that's what South Carolinians said in exit polls at the primaries today. ???The environment. Healthcare. These are the two most important issues the next president will have to cope with, in that order. The economy is a minor fraction of a footnote. The economy goes up and down. There's so little outside interaction in a typical day for me that I begin to feel as though the outer world were not much more than a shadowy dream. It makes it hard to get up a lot of urgency about things like paying bills, accomplishing work, really anything that is not directly and Mariahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00528504865661311358noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5804054.post-53627425462086576992008-01-21T10:25:00.000-05:002008-01-21T10:29:59.303-05:00Pink KittyThe cat is turning pink. Have you seen the pictures of that guy who made himself blue? I don't think he looks very blue, actually, more like an indefinable dark, but whatever. The cat is indisputably pink on the back of her neck and her paws. Haven't determined the source yet. I'm a little afraid to find out. I have discovered a fault in my cabling in the brim of Coronet. The coldest it's been since I moved back a year and a half ago. I've really thrown caution to the winds and turned up the thermostat to 62˚. I do have a woodstove, a space heater under my desk, an electric mattress pad on the bed, and a fan heater in the bathroom, don't feel too sorry for us yet.Mariahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00528504865661311358noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5804054.post-10421035788271714882008-01-20T10:05:00.000-05:002008-01-20T10:11:18.247-05:00CrownedI finished my Coronet, in Noro Iro, color 60. It's a teensy bit … snug… and the colors are a little blockier and contrastier than I'd envisioned, but overall I love it and my head is warm. I nearly ran out of yarn, which is part of why it's not a little more spacious. I'm considering knitting another out of another colorway of Iro, for my aunt, but haven't decided. I don't think she'd be wild Mariahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00528504865661311358noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5804054.post-633392635669799822008-01-11T18:04:00.000-05:002008-01-11T22:36:11.309-05:00Hat FailureThat's harsh. I made 7 hats I was proud of and gave them to people for Christmas. I had bought yarn for more hats but didn't have time to finish them by Christmas, so I started another after the Big Day. I just (sort of) finished it tonight, but I have no glow of pride. I thought I was going to finish it the other day, but when I took off my Myopic Knitting Glasses (patent pending) I realized Mariahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00528504865661311358noreply@blogger.com0
